5 Influencers Who Are Winning on Snapchat

Posted 11 May 2016 9:00 AM by Julia Cantor @MoxieUSA, @juliacantor

Influencers are different for every business. They can range from employees and consumers to social engagers, premium influencers and A-List talent. At Moxie, we call this the Moxie Influencer Spectrum™, as several different types of people have the propensity to drive action for brands. This is particularly true when looking at influencers who have taken to the Snapchat platform.

A full range of people are active and prominent on Snapchat. This is especially impressive because there aren’t opportunities to pay for followers, which means all these people are entertaining and/or creative enough to have built an engaged following on their own.

Snapchat just announced users are now watching more than 10 billion videos every day on the app — that’s 2 billion more than February, when it was tied with Facebook. Furthermore, Snapchat is now the most important networking app amongst teens. Why is Snapchat killing it amongst its core audience? It can be boiled down to four key reasons: 1) users are sharing what’s actually happening in their daily lives, 2) it’s truly entertaining for users, 3) the platform keeps them on their toes and 4) celebrities and influencers are showcasing moments offered nowhere else.

Who are some of these influencers and what are they doing? Here are 5 who have built huge followings on the platform:

  1. DJ Khaled, with two million plus followers, known as “hip-hop’s Oprah,” shares daily life lessons or “keys.” He partners with brands to create custom, short-form video programs to showcase on his channel.
  2. Shonduras is known as the “first” Snapchat celebrity to become famous through the Snapchat platform. He’s part creative storyteller and part business strategist, which is what makes him so successful. He’s partnered with several well-known brands to do channel takeovers, and his face even appeared in a chain filter for a national restaurant (that’s when you know you’ve made it!).
  3. Kate Hudson, Golden Globe-winning actress and Oscar nominee, posts many snaps every day with every single filter and lens she can find. She showcases her workouts and her activewear line in the process. She places these snaps intermittently with life events and selfies.
  4. Casey Holmes is a YouTube beauty vlogger who has recently built a following on Snapchat. Casey, like many other YouTubers and vloggers, cross-promotes her content on Snapchat, similar to how she uses Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. She does this by videoing the upload process and posting to Snapchat.
  5. Hannah Bronfman is a health and fitness expert, curator of HBFit and one of fashion's hottest DJs. She receives approximately 22K opens per snap. Her most recent venture involved partnering with the Food Network’s Discover channel to post three four-minute pilot episodes of a new video series called, “Feel Good with Hannah.”
