Giggles with Google on April Fool's

The number one trait people look for in a mate? Sense of humor. So it’s no surprise that brands attempt to woo customers the same way. And what better day to shine and show off the wit and charm of your company than today, April Fool’s?

 

Pranks on the public have ranged from totally adorable to safety focused this year, but if I had to choose just one company really getting it right, Google is winning my heart this year.

Things I personally look for in a man: Creative? Yes. Funny? Yes. Social-media-savvy? Tops. Based on these qualities, Google is essentially my Internet boyfriend. And its pranks this year are the perfect love letters: all in good fun, with a touch of silliness.

Gmail Shelfies


Taking the #selfie trend and turning it into an extra-fun email experience, the “Shelfie” is a shareable selfie. By using the custom theme option in Gmail, users can upload any photo to set as their email background. How is the “Shelfie” different? It’s shareable. Send your mug to all your loved ones to use on their Gmail themes too.

Google Maps: Pokemon Challenge


One of the most buzzed about pranks from the Google family, Google Maps released a spoof video yesterday detailing what it takes to become a Pokémon Master — a newly opened role at Google. The best part? On iOS and Android devices, you can actually see and find Pokémon characters around the world, within the Maps app. Is the job real? Probably not, but you actually can collect them all.

Google+ Auto Awesome Photobombs with David Hasselhoff

Google+ is adding some extra fun to photos uploaded through the service by adding Hasselhoff photo-bombs. Google advises to upload images with some space on either side of the subject for a potential surprise. According to the comments in the official blog post, the Hoff himself has been responding on folks’ profiles. Hofftacular!

Chrome: Emojify The Web


As an avid supporter of all things emoji, I could not help but cry laugh when I saw this spot. Update your Chrome app in iOS or Android to make the “translate to emoji” feature available. Translate all the things into picture stories with emoji characters. Enjoy.

WazeDates


WazeDates is the least talked about prank of this bunch, but the joke that elicited the biggest smile from me. In the current era of dating apps, why not join the swipe-for-love playing field? Sitting in traffic and see a cutie next to you? They might be on Waze and be your traffic soul mate.
